The current cast of characters here at RCF –
Layla – Queen of the Crate (At least SHE thinks so)
She was called Sparkles when she arrived at 8 weeks old and the little girl who gave her that moniker certainly had some insight… She’s irreverent, ever-playful, and relentless in her pursuit of annoying Pete.
Pete – Meanest dog of all the dogs in my yard
While there’s definitely truth to that if you spook him, he’s also one of the kindest souls around. Tough but mostly gentle, has some ridiculous habits ’cause he’s just a little obsessive compulsive.
Sadly, we said goodbye to Pete as he left this world in August of 2019 – he’s been with us from the very beginning of our farm journey, we still see him everywhere, and he will always be an integral part of it. Miss you so much buddy.
Stella – Guardian number One (and, actual current reigning Queen of the Crate – she just humors Layla)
Totally fluffy and silky soft on the outside (and she loves lazy hours and camping – as you can see by the pic) but, she’s definitely warrior tough on the inside. When she senses a threat she does this thing where her normally graceful physique widens and lowers in stance – when you see that, something’s coming and you step aside and let her do her thing.
Luc – Guardian number Two
He’s just a pup. But he’s currently around 100#’s of pup. Not a lot taller than Stella, but almost twice as wide – just a tank. Something re-learned every morning at sunrise when he un-gracefully, and unapologetically, launches himself onto the bed to ensure humans are awake as they should be. Enjoys the simpler things in life – like sticks and mud holes. He’s also a seventh gen LGD – so, he’s pretty awesome in that department as well.
Steven Tyler – The Exterminator and, Expert Sleeper
Sooo, the name. Well – we picked up this cat as a kitten from the shelter and that her name was Olga… After a short time at the farm we were playing with Olga and, well, discovered that Olga was in fact a ‘he’ – so he got a new name. Dude, apparently, looked like a lady to the humane society pros.
Star and Jag – The Sentinels (and Showboaters)
Former show horses turned pasture buddies, these two will greet you at the gate, chase ya down the drive, and if you’re real nice to them (think carrots and peppermint)… they’ll trot, canter, and gallop across the pasture in true show form to this day.
Gaia – The Sweetheart?
She joined us (along with Allen) as a rescue awhile back (she’s the one on the left of this ‘lil get your drink on’ party). She’s partnered up with Star to get into all kinds of mischief over the years and, the two of them keep Jag both annoyed (at like 35 years old now – he gets to be a grumpy old man) and, safe. She loves, loves, loves little chin scratches.
Christina – The Boss
Keeper of the Crate and the fire behind the vision (as well as under all our behinds)…
Mark – Repairman and Accidental Engineer
Hang on. Lemme… (insert expletive, insert grunt, insert more expletives) Umm… Ok, It’s fixed.
